Legislatures Update April 27, 2026
The latest update on the legislative front is that they are focusing primarily on regulating BOCES and not part-time charter-based programs. The end of the legislative session is May 13th, which means that if there is no bill proposed by May 9, we are in the clear for this legislative session. Part-time funding will most likely come up next year, but for this coming school year, 26-27, there would not be a rule change that would affect us. The facts are that our state is in a budgetary crisis that they are not going to be out of for several years. With that being said, we at SAS have a plan moving forward that will keep up operational regardless of any new rules that would be made around seat time up to 180 hrs. I do not foresee part-time programs being regulated above and beyond traditional “brick and mortar” schools, so we will be safe from any changes that they make. On the building front, we are currently in the permitting queue to get the fire suppression system and HVAC update completed for us to be able to occupy the building on Goddard Ranch Ct. in August.

We feel the snack cart is beneficial & the kids love it, but we also understand the pushback some families have & therefore we request your feedback! A little background...the snack cart was started by a student council class 3 yrs. ago & all proceeds go to charity. After this year, we will have donated close to $3k to local charities that support kids, families & animals. We have seen more than just snacks being sold at lunchtime, & feel there is an educational benefit as well: counting money, making decisions (this is harder than it might seem), communicating what they would like to buy, budgeting, etc.
