Dear JA Coal Creek Canyon Families,
The events that happened at Evergreen High School are weighing heavy on our minds. While this event did not involve our school, we know that news like this can be upsetting and may raise concerns about safety for students, staff, and families.
Please know that the safety and well-being of our students is always our top priority. We partner closely with district security, local law enforcement, and emergency responders to maintain a safe and secure school environment. We are diligent about making sure doors are locked and visitors to campus are checking in at the office. Our safety plans are regularly reviewed, and we continue to practice safety drills with students in a developmentally appropriate way.
We also recognize that hearing about violence in schools can bring up big feelings for children. You may want to check in with your child to see how they are feeling and reassure them about the steps we take every day to keep our school safe. If your child needs additional support we have resources available.
Thank you for partnering with us to keep JA Coal Creek Canyon a safe, caring place for all children to learn and grow.
With care,
Carrie Mott
Principal
JA Coal Creek Canyon
We were unable to complete our lockdown drill last Wednesday as Jeffco Safety and Security resources were needed elsewhere. We will reschedule the drill and communicate when we have a date.
You can send a Shout-Out too—whether it’s for a staff member, student, parent, event, or achievement. Big or small, every shout-out makes a difference.

Thank you Sarah for the kind words!!
We’d love your input! Please take a moment to complete this year’s Family and Community Connection Survey: www.jajags.com/forms/25-26-ja-family-community-connection-survey.
This quick survey helps us learn more about your interests, availability for volunteer opportunities, family-owned businesses, and any potential needs. It’s an important tool to help us connect, support, and involve our JA families in meaningful ways throughout the year.
Our Community Engagement Specialist, Tiffany Flores, will follow up if needed and help connect you with resources or opportunities based on your responses. Thank you for helping us build a strong and connected JA community!
Middle and Kinder buddy bonding time.
We are still looking for adult volunteers to help out in the building. Some of our needs are one time or short term needs and are often requested by teachers or shared in these weekly principal notes. Our biggest school day needs for the year are helping with lunch supervision and parking lot safety.
Lunch supervision is about an hour a day from 11:30-12:30 and parking lot supervision is about 20-30 minutes a day from 3:15-3:45.
We have had no volunteers step up for parking lot duty so far, so we are still in great need. We will train you, give you a really cool vest and maybe even a stop sign!
We have had a couple of parents step up for lunch supervision in the last couple of weeks and we are so grateful, but we never want one or two people to shoulder all of the responsibility. Even committing to one day a week is so helpful. We will train you and give you exclusive access to a walkie talkie!
Lunch supervision is about an hour a day from 11:30-12:30 and parking lot supervision is about 20-30 minutes a day from 3:15-3:45. Please let us know if you are able to help! Sign up here.
We have one parent who has volunteered to be a voice for our community, WOOHOO! More are welcome if anyone is interested in being a part of the Jefferson Academy School Accountability Committee. Meetings are one hour (5:30pm-6:30pm) and are held the first Wednesday of the month. You can participate in person at the JA Elementary campus or virtually. Here is the agenda and a presentation from the first meeting that gives a brief summary of what the SAC is all about. If you are interested please email Carrie Mott.
