5th grade Science
One of the most important parts of beginning the new semester in classrooms is re-norming or reminding students of processes and procedures that happen each day. We know students can get a little rusty and forgetful of classroom expectations.
I thought the new semester would be a great time to also revisit our core values as a community. Over the next few weeks I will pick a Core Value and dig a bit deeper into what they mean so we can embed them into our culture at JACCC.
This week I am going to start with my favorite âWe communicate with candor, kindness and respectâ. This one was one that I highlighted at our Back to School presentation mostly because I knew that over the course of the year we were going to face a few speed bumps along the way. I know if we are constantly communicating and working together to solve problems then we will be able to get over those speed bumps much quicker.
Here are 5 ways we all can hold true to this core value:
Go to the source. If it is a classroom concern, start with the teacher. It is our chain of communication to start with the teacher. They are the best resource to communicate what is happening day to day. If it is a building wide concern I am always happy to chat. All staff members at JACCC are happy to have respectful and productive conversations.
Our goal is to solve problems. We always want to communicate in a manner to solve problems and not to create them.
Try not to jump to conclusions. There is usually so much going on behind the scenes that is unseen so the whole story isnât always obvious.
Use social media outlets for praises. I am a firm believer that if someone wants to help solve a problem or better a situation they do not go straight to social media, they go to the source (see #1). We never want to create doubt with uninformed statements or incorrect information.
Calmer heads prevail. We all become mama and papa bears when it comes to our kids so it is always a good idea to take some time to breathe before diving into conversation. I try hard, when the situation allows, to take 24 hours to process my thoughts. This helps me to speak logically not from emotion.
I will say that in my experience as principal at JACCC this core value has shown to be a strong one within the community. I am so thankful to all the parents who have come to me to ask questions and get clarification so far this year.

Step 3: At this point you will have a choice to submit your intent to continue enrolment at JA CCC or you may choose to apply to other schools.
Our state CMAS testing is quite a ways off but wanted to make sure families get these dates on their calendars. We are asking all families to make their best effort to not plan trips or appointments during the window. The dates for the testing window are April 7th-April 25th.
